Hi all,
I have a golden retriever crossed with a poodle ie a 'groodle".
Loves water but oh the smell after.
How do I treat this?
Is there a powder or something similar?
I dont want to stop her swimming as it is so hot up here.
Help.

tarz did you ever get that original dog smell sorted. If you are swimming your dog in the Murray, need I say more.

Get yourself down to the nearest pet supply store and get one of this mild shampoos. If your dog is swimming everyday, there is one for everyday use.

Gee. You have a good memory Tiffany.
With regard to the original problem, our Vet recommended a diet based on kangaroo meat together with a anti- bacterial shampoo.
This did help.
Yes you are right. She swims in a irrigation channel that does come off the Murray river. Maybe there are nasties in the water that her skin is reacting too.
I did notice that after clipping that the smell is reduced when her hair/fur is thinner.

The smell might just be the dog's general odour My Mum had a dog of the same cross as yours which she got from rescue. Her boy always stunk to high heavan - turns out it was muck deep in his ears.

yes! i was talking to a pet groomer one day, and she said the same thing, that some dogs really smell bad due to dirty ears. worth while checking that one.
