Are you buying APVMA approved products?
Beware of Imitation Pet Medications!
Do you really know the medication you are purchasing for your pet?
We only sell Australian approved pet medications. If the product you are buying does not have an APVMA approval number on the packet then the chances are you are purchasing a product manufactured overseas and not approved for use in this country. The APVMA, (Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority), is an Australian government authority responsible for the assessment and registration of pesticides and veterinary medicines. There is a loophole in the Australian law at present which allows companies to sell or import these products into Australia, however while it is not illegal them to do this, it is illegal for you to purchase them. Crazy but true!
More and more we are seeing cheaper alternative products available for sale in Australia. While most of these products contain the active ingredients necessary to do what they claim, they are not approved for use in Australian conditions. If you ever find a non APVMA approved medication at your veterinarian… change vets!
These products will be often found on eBay or less reputable online stores. If the price looks too good to be true, then the chances are that it is indeed too good to be true! We are not going to list the products here, (there were over 15 new alternative products alone from the US in the last 12 months), however one recent example to hit our shores is Advocate 4 packs manufactured in Europe being offered for sale in Australia. APVMA approved Advocate is manufactured here as a 3 pack or 6 pack. Although essentially the same product you would be breaking Australian laws in purchasing a 4 pack of Advocate as it has not been approved for use in this country.
