Description... |
|
The Savannah Cat is a new
breed, developed from the wild African Serval, a spotted,
shorthaired cat that resembles the Cheetah. The Serval has a wedge
shaped head and very large, forward facing ears.

History...
|
|
The Savannah Cat has been
demonstrated to breed true (Savannah cat bred to a Savannah cat
producing obvious Savannah kittens) only since 2000. Many genes of
the wild African Serval and domestic cat breeds with which the
Serval was cross-bred are still present in the breed. The Savannah
Cat has been accepted by the The International Cat Association, with
designation as an experimental breed, as of 2001.

Traits...
|
|
Some early generation
Savannah Cats (F1) possess many characteristics of their wild
ancestor. Later generations (F2 - F5) are more domesticated.
Savannah Cats do best in households with children or other pets if
they are introduced as kittens.
