Description... |
|
The Russian Blue is a
graceful cat with a slender, graceful body, almond-shaped emerald
eyes, wide-set ears, and a long, tapering tail. The coat is short
and sleek. It is a solid blue-grey colour with a silvery sheen.
Russian Blues are gentle, adaptable and quiet cats, at home in any
situation. Their are many Blues in city apartments and they are well
suited to this life. They will get along with everyone and anything,
as they quickly become members of the whole family and love to
'smooch'! They have plush short double coats, but moult little as
they are perfectionist groomers. They are non-demanding and loveable
in all situations.

|
History...
|
|
The original Russian was a Tabby.
These are still available, but only registrable in SA. Russian
Blacks and Whites are also available in Australia. The Russian Blue
is a natural Breed not created by man, having evolved in the Arctic
or Semi-arctic Forests of Northern Russia. This is the origin of
their densely plush double coat to insulate and to repel water, snow
and dirt. Known as the "Archangel Cat", they are thought
to have originated near the city of Archangelsk and were brought to
Europe in the 1860's.

|
Traits...
|
Silver-tipped
guard hairs give the Russian Blue a lustrous sheen. They have a
wedge shaped skull, straight aristocratic nose, and almond shaped
vivid green eyes. Prominent whisker pads, with a proud gentle head
carriage, long tapering tail, legs and small feet. giving the
overall impression of a powerful elegant cat.
|
|
Good aspects...
|
|
Russians are totally loving, without
being overwhelmingly affectionate like other breeds. They are quiet
and regal, and are truly aristocratic, with a real personality.
Intensely loving and devoted to their family and other pets.
|
|
Health...
|
|
As a natural breed Russian Blues have
few, if any, inherent problems. Genetic disorders or temperament
problems in this breed come back to poor breeding practices, not the
breed itself.
|
|
Be aware...
|
|
Russian Blues are suitable to all
situations and require only the usually loving care and attention
that any other breed of animal does. No animal will thrive on
neglect or abandonment and neither will a Russian enjoy such
circumstances.
