History...
|
|
Exotics were developed from
Persians and other breeds of cat. Over time, the Persian lines have
been more fully developed within the breed, to the point that these
are Persian cats in all regards except coat type.

Traits...
|
|
In general, these cats are
quiet, easy-going, affectionate and playful.

Health...
|
|
The flattened face
configuration prized in the breed predisposes Persian-type cats to
upper respiratory infections and abnormalities of the oral and nasal
cavities. Some lines of Persian cats are predisposed to renal
(kidney) failure and this may be true for Exotics as well. Cats with
this body conformation (large head and small pelvis) are more prone
to dystocia (difficulty giving birth) than are other breeds. If not
carefully brushed daily, the silky coat mats to the skin,
predisposing the animal to skin infection. Animals with a white coat
and blue eyes are more likely to be deaf than are animals with a coloured coat or eyes.
