Chausie Return to A~ Z index Description... The Chausie is a lean, muscular cat. The coat is plush, ranging in colour from blue to black or with patterning as is seen in the wild jungle cat from which it is derived. History... This breed's name is derived from the Latin name of the wild jungle cat (Felis chaus) that is its ancestor. Breeding of these jungle cats with domestic cats began in the early 1970's. This is a developing breed. Traits... Some early generation Chausie's (F1) possess many characteristics of their wild ancestor. Later generations (F2 - F5) are more domesticated.
